Dear Friends and Customers of Solo Bistro:
After a blistering and busy Heritage Days Festival, perfect weather prevails, with cool nights and warm days – the kind of weather every kid who ever spent a summer vacation in Maine remembers as an adult when he or she surrenders to the sweet compulsion of daydreaming about life in our still stunningly beautiful state.
With the reality at hand, however, one is reluctant to spend more time than necessary at a desk . . . .
That said, I am myself compelled to mention a new competitor in Brunswick that is doing a stellar job: Tao. A tasteful renovation of the former Teahouse and Provisions space on Pleasant Street (reportedly by the same contractor who did Solo Bistro), an original small plate menu of Chinese-inspired food you are unlikely to see elsewhere, expertly executed by the young Chinese American chef/owner trained in Beijing and Paris . . . . This is a quality operation with a modern sensibility that is original, coherent, and pleasing to the eye and palate. Definitely worth a visit for food lovers!
Notwithstanding the excellence of Brunswick’s newest restaurant, Solo Bistro’s $17.99 Wednesday Special takes a back seat to no-one when it comes to quality and value, so read on!
The $17.99 Wednesday Special kicks off with a gazpacho, of which the kitchen has made several excellent batches this summer, some with a little kick of their own! The main course will be summer vegetables sautéed with garlic, white wine and herbs over bucatini pasta, followed by a glazed caramel cake. Struttin’ our stuff for summer!
Friday Night Jazz July 6
It may be Friday the 13th this Friday, but jazz lovers are in luck because we’ve got vocalist Lorraine Bohland and pianist Flash Allen coming to the new space this week. Flash is one of the most sought after accompanists in the biz, and often performs with Lorraine, whose soulful vocals will put you in mind of greats like Ella Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin. The livin’ will definitely be easy this Friday at Solo Bistro from 6:30 to 9:30!
As always, we look forward to seeing you on Front Street, in downtown Bath, where superstitions and stupefying slasher flicks get short shrift in the presence of seriously scrumptious sustenance and sumptuous singing that simply swamp such silliness in a surge of sensory satisfaction!
