Cool. Very cool.
June 6th, 2017

Dear Friends and Customers of Solo Bistro:
Still cool and damp, as June along the coast of Maine can tend to be, before the Gulf of Maine sucks up sufficient solar energy to set the summer on its balmy course. In the meantime layers lighten slightly, but linger nonetheless, as indeed they likely will all summer long . . .
But sun is on the way for Wednesday, and with it warmer temps, not to mention the three course Wednesday Special!
Wednesday Special
This week the $19.99 Wednesday Special kicks off with spicy greens from the Tarbox Farm on Westport Island, dressed in a fines herbes vinaigrette. The main course will be orecchiette pasta with sautéed shrimp, ham, baby kale and roasted red pepper in an alfredo sauce. For dessert, Chef Franklyn will offer a cream cheese and mascarpone cheese cake with an almond and graham cracker crust and orange caramel.
Friday Night Jazz June 9, 2017
Guitar jazz remains to rule the roost this Friday in the masterful hands of Maine’s own maestro of the jazz guitar, scholar-artist Gary Wittner. Gary has taught in the University of Maine system and at Bowdoin, among other institutions, and is known for his transcription for guitar of the works of jazz pianist Thelonius Monk. One of the best there is in his chosen métier, don’t miss Gary in the New Space at Solo Bistro this Friday night from 6:30 to 9:30 PM.
As always, we look forward to seeing you on Front Street in downtown Bath, where the finest kind of food is found by foodies of all stripes!

Of Luck and Lux (email of 5/23/17)
May 30th, 2017

Dear Friends and Customers of Solo Bistro:
Luxuriance looks to be the word of the day, as leafing out laves the hillsides of the lower Kennebec Valley in a lovely light green interspersed with licks of dark red, lawns lay carpets of lush verdure across the lived in landscapes of our homes, and the scent of lilac wafts on the wind. Pollen output may have peaked, mosquitoes have made their still-modest appearance, and no doubt where fresh water flows, black flies are already well into their ascendancy. With that of course, Memorial Day weekend must be at hand, as indeed it is!
With thoughts of summer simmering in the background, Chef Franklyn has got a little heat on his mind for this week’s Wednesday Special.
Wednesday Special
The first course of the $19.99 Wednesday Special this week will be a ginger and parsnip soup. The main course will be Cajun fish – pan seared Gulf of Maine pollock accompanied by dirty rice and pineapple salsa. And for dessert, a cornmeal cookie with mascarpone cheese and rhubarb jelly. Yum!
Friday Night Jazz May 26, 2017
The final Friday of May brings piano man Mickey Felder back to the New Space with his extensive repertoire of classic jazz. Mickey will provide the perfect entrée to a lovely long weekend and the longed-for summer waiting in the wings, this Friday night from 6:30 to 9:30 PM.
As always, we look forward to seeing you on Front Street in downtown Bath, where lingual luxuriance lingers unexpectedly, if not indefinitely, in this world of ephemeral beauty.
