Super-mooned
November 16th, 2016

Dear Friends and Customers of Solo Bistro:
The advertising gravy train is sitting abandoned at its Election Day terminus, forgotten and unlamented except by local television stations and their owners. But here on the natural-world edge of the mid-Atlantic megalopolis, nature is quietly but firmly reasserting her claim to our attention, with tides we cannot ignore and with co-occurring moonshine that beggars the blowsy metaphorical stuff that biennially passes for political discourse on our airwaves.
And speaking of nature, what could be more natural and naturally good than a meal from the Solo Bistro kitchen, where Chef Ray Franklyn and his crew receive the bounty of our local farms and fisheries and transform it into exceptionally tasty treats both sweet and savory, which on Wednesday become exceedingly inexpensive as well!
Wednesday Special
This week’s $17.99 Wednesday Special will start with salad of Goranson greens and roasted squash, dressed in an orange vinaigrette. That will be followed by chipotle barbecued pork tacos – slow braised shredded pork shoulder in a corn tortilla with pico de gallo, black bean rice and mango remoulade. Dessert will be a chili spiced chocolate mousse topped with whipped cream.
Friday Night Jazz November 18, 2016
Ahmad Hassan Mohammed returns to the New Space this Friday for your dining and listening pleasure. An accomplished jazz pianist, Ahmad has been an audience favorite since he first appeared at Solo Bistro as a freshman at Bowdoin some six or eight years ago. You won’t find a better way to assuage a thirst for a bit of cool culture in an uncommonly hot media environment than an evening with Ahmad Hassan Mohammed this Friday from 6:30 to 9:30 PM at Solo Bistro!
As always, we look forward to seeing you on Front Street in downtown Bath, where folks don’t spend a lot of time mooning around, and are generally grateful for a good bite, plus a sip to swallow it with.

Lapsarian Lot
November 2nd, 2016

Dear Friends and Customers of Solo Bistro:
Frost finally got most of the way down the peninsulas on Halloween, leaving lawns limed in white weeks later than was the case in even recent years. A sunny Saint’s Day followed, feeling like the late fall day it was. But overall, we’ve had a fall for the record books, beautiful and temperate, if not quite unequivocally benign.
Fortunately for the hardy souls settling in for the subsequent season and beginning to batten down the hatches ahead of what’s to come, the weekly Wednesday Special will continue to shine its welcome warmth in the wallets and palates of all and sundry seekers of superior sustenance!
Wednesday Special
This week’s $17.99 Wednesday Special will start with greens from Goranson Farm and Lisbon’s aquaponic Springworks, with a green goddess dressing. Grilled pork tenderloin with roasted sweet potatoes, onions and apples will follow, accompanied by a mustard cider sauce. Coconut milk rice pudding will bring up the rear, garnished with cranberries cooked in orange juice, and topped with a dollop of whipped cream.
Friday Night Jazz November 4, 2016
Neil Lamb returns to the New Space with his seven string guitar. Civilized sounds from the seven-string jazz master of Mid Coast Maine, this Friday evening from 6:30 to 9:30 PM at Solo Bistro!
As always, we look forward to seeing you on Front Street in downtown Bath, where fallen foliage feels about right.
