Mothers’ Day, Malecon & More
May 16th, 2017

Dear Friends and Customers of Solo Bistro:
May it may be – the second week no less – but it may not feel like May, and indeed it does not! Mothers’ Day is in the offing – and Solo Bistro will be serving brunch again to help celebrate the mothers in our lives.
We are clearly still on a roundabout route to summer, one that seems to have taken us by way of England, weather-wise at least. Perhaps that’s what has put Chef Franklyn in mind of an English classic for this week’s Wednesday Special . . . .
Wednesday Special
This week’s $19.99 Wednesday Special begins with a soup of spring-dug parsnips from Squire Tarbox Farm on Westport Island, decorated with a delightful dollop of spiced cream. The main course – which will be a Maine course as well, this being Solo Bistro – will conjure jolly old England from our own grey skies and fog, not to mention local Gulf of Maine hake, and local beer to create a classic fish and chips dinner – beer-battered hake deep-fried as served with handcut fries, a carrot-asparagus slaw and house-made green onion tartar sauce. And for dessert, an orange cake topped with whipped cream on a rhubarb coulis, a metaphorical sunset on a plate to bring the evening to a close!
Friday Night Jazz May 12, 2017
And speaking of grey, a couple of grey haired guys, or in Spanish, Dos Canosos, will be coming by the New Space on Friday to lighten up the atmosphere with some Latin jazz, bringing a bit of Havana and Rio home to Bath. Scholar-musician Gary Wittner will bring his guitar, and his longtime bestie, Raul Freyre will bring his panoply of percussive instruments, plus his voice and perhaps his 3 string Cuban guitar, the tres. Dos Canosos is one of the favorite acts we have for Friday Night Jazz, so come on down to Solo to soak up a (forecast) sunset along the Malecon of the Midcoast, the Copacabana of the Kennebec, Bath’s own Commercial Street Waterfront Park, then settle into a delicious dinner mere steps away with the rhythms and sounds of sunny southern climes, this Friday night from 6:30 to 9:30 PM.
As always, we look forward to seeing you on Front Street in downtown Bath, where the cosmopolitan is culinarily close at hand!

Big ‘Band Flavor
May 16th, 2017

Dear Friends and Customers of Solo Bistro:
So, May at last. Spring proceeds towards summer, as often in northern New England, with all the grace of a sixth grader in dancing class. There’s an undercurrent of excitement, but for the most part it’s two left feet self-consciously slogging their circuitous way to a hopefully happier place . . . .
Fortunately for us, Chef Ray Franklyn is here to fend off our frustration with some mighty fine food at a mighty fine price every Wednesday without fail, no matter how dismally drizzly it otherwise may be!
Wednesday Special
This week’s $19.99 Wednesday Special begins with a salad of Springworks greens, olives and tomatoes in a parsley vinaigrette. That will be followed by chipotle-barbecued pork served over cumin rice and accompanied by Napa cabbage slaw and cilantro cream. For dessert, Chef Ray will be baking a mocha cake with orange caramel. Some sweet!
Friday Night Jazz May 5, 2017
Dave Lawlor, who has also played in the New Space with Neil Lamb as part of the Lambo-Law Duet, returns solo to Solo this Friday night from 6:30 to 9:30 PM for another great evening of guitar jazz.
As always, we look forward to seeing you on Front Street in downtown Bath, where dancing class days may be a mercifully distant memory, but the food will leave your taste buds doing a lingual Lindy Hop!
