Cats Cool & Philosophical
March 13th, 2017

Dear Friends and Customers of Solo Bistro:
The biting weekend winds and bitter temps are giving way to yet another round of unwanted winter precip. Tapas Tuesday is tomorrow, and again on April 11, a mere 5 days before the return of Solo Bistro’s lovely, and much longed-for Easter Brunch. But in the meantime, we can take to heart the good advice of a famous fictional feline philosophe, who said of inclement weather, “I know it is wet and the sun is not sunny, but we can have lots of good fun that is funny!” And on the list . . .
Wednesday Special
This Wednesday the $19.99 Special will start with a salad of that hardiest and healthiest of greens, the formerly humble kale, plus the most beautiful of radishes, the watermelon radish. Together they will be dressed in a delicious and fortifying mustard vinaigrette. A Solo “surf & turf” pasta will follow, combining ground lamb and shrimp in a spicy fra diavolo sauce, which will pick up where the mustard vinaigrette left off to generate a bit of heat on a wintry Wednesday in mid-March. Dessert will be a lemon curd and a compote of last summer’s blueberries — a little reminder of good things to come –topped with this winter’s fresh whipped cream.
Friday Night Jazz March 17, 2017
Speaking of good things coming, Ahmed Hassan Muhammad will be at the keyboard in the New Space on Friday – a cool kid from Brooklyn who went to Bowdoin College and stayed in the area, to the great good fortune of our ears and that which lies between them! Cool tunes from a cool guy in Maine’s Cool Little City this Friday from 6:30 to 9:30 PM at Solo Bistro. Faith and begorrah!
As always, we look forward to seeing you on Front Street in downtown Bath, where it’s cool to be cold, and odd if you’re not, in this wintry week just before the sun crosses the Line on its way back to us!

Flirts and cranks
March 13th, 2017

Dear Friends and Customers of Solo Bistro:
The annual flirtation with spring has ramped up rather nicely this past week, if perhaps somewhat prematurely. The birds that wintered over are certainly celebrating, while in the estuaries and salt marshes the gaggles of geese are slowly swelling with new arrivals from the south. They irregularly erupt in raucous alarums at any provocation – or even none — filling the still wintery woods with the echoes of their agitation. The peepers are likely not too far behind, and when they begin to serenade each other, we will know the flirtation is progressing to the next level. . . .
Wednesday Special
This week’s $19.99 Wednesday Special resurrects the color scheme of Christmas in a bowl of smoked tomato bisque, with a beautiful and tasty little dollop of basil pesto. That will be followed by an all-natural pork tenderloin, grilled to your preferred degree of “done” and topped with house made chimichurri sauce. The tenderloin will be accompanied by sautéed greens and organic Goranson Farm potato mash. Finally, a rum and raisin brownie will finish the fun.
Friday Night Jazz March 3, 2017
Mickey Felder and his keyboard return to the New Space this Friday for the finest kind of piano jazz for lovers of live music and fine food. Mickey Felder this Friday from 6:30 to 9:30 PM at Solo Bistro!
As always, we look forward to seeing you on Front Street in downtown Bath, where you can always enjoy a restorative respite from the humdrum harassments and indignities of the day-to-day, not to mention hysterical honking when geese get your goat!
