Not Crawfish Pie . . .
April 24th, 2017

Dear Friends and Customers of Solo Bistro:
The peepers predicted last week made their presence known that very night, and by the time we got to Sunday’s 80+ degrees, they were raising a ruckus to wake the dead. Those same temperatures sent daffodil blooms bursting forth from the confinement of their papery shrouds, and catkins cascading from tree branch tips, while buds everywhere swelled with an almost unseemly urgency. The generalized jumping-for-joy of the natural world may subside slightly as the mercury slips back to seasonable, but the trend is unmistakable, undeniable and utterly welcome!
Mother’s Day Brunch is now coming into view on the horizon, a mere four weeks away, — not too soon to secure your place at the table, so to speak! In the meantime, there will be the usual parade of appetizing options for the omnivorous, the picky and even the parsimonious, especially on Wednesdays!
Wednesday Special
This week the Wednesday special will begin with the aquaponic produce of Springworks of Lisbon in the form of greens graced with radishes and a champagne vinaigrette. The main course will be a chicken and sausage jambalaya with creole spices, celery and onion over basmati rice – unbeatable! Dessert will be a cornmeal cookie with orange segments and whipped cream! Son of gun, we’ll have good fun!
Friday Night Jazz April 21, 2017
Jesse Feinberg and his keyboard return to the New Space this week for a little post-tax tension release. Let it all go with great food and great jazz this Friday night at Solo Bistro from 6:30 to 9:30 PM!
As always, we look forward to seeing you on Front Street in downtown Bath, where chères amie-o’s meet to eat and the good life gets better.

Tapas Tuesday Again, Plus Easter Brunch
April 10th, 2017

Dear Friends and Customers of Solo Bistro:
Tapas Tuesday is on tap for tomorrow night, and this month it seems certain we will avoid a snowstorm. A pair ospreys returned last week to their nest atop the Wilder Bridge to Arrowsic, and with today’s almost toasty temps, a mourning cloak butterfly was seen on the hunt for a sip of sap among the hardwoods of the Holt Research Forest. We may not be entirely past the threat of snow yet, but the prospects for frozen precipitation are looking pretty poor for Passover and Easter, praise be! Peepers predicted by next week!
Speaking of Easter, we will be serving brunch on Sunday from 10:30 till 2 to celebrate the day and the season. If you’re footloose and fancy free, or merely looking for a fuss-free feast for the family, set your sights on Solo Bistro this Sunday!!
In the interim, of course, Chef Ray Franklyn also has some super fare in store for a song on workaday Wednesday, to wit . . . .

Wednesday Special
A little lime vinaigrette will liven up a starter salad of Springworks greens for the first course of this week’s Wednesday Special. For the main course, Chef Ray can offer a chili chicken bowl – slow braised chicken in southwestern spices over black bean rice with frisée and avocado crème. For the finale, five-spice ice cream and an almond macaroon. Where else, but here? The finest kind of food, for all your senses.

Friday Night JazzApril 14, 2017
Ahmad Hassan Muhammad returns with his keyboard and his impressive musical gifts to the New Space this Friday. A man for all seasons – and this week for spring! — Muhammad has been delighting diners here since he was a freshman at Bowdoin, the better part of a decade ago. Perfect piano jazz from Ahmad Hassan Muhammad this Friday night at Solo Bistro from 6:30 to 9:30 PM!
As always, we look forward to seeing you on Front Street in downtown Bath, where we sing for spring, and one can eat singular, and singularly good, food for a song some days.
